Solastagia

This concept found its first performance at 12 Minutes Max at The Dance Centre, March 2023.

The work is under development this year, with an upcoming residency at The Space in April, 2024.

A collaboration with theatre artist Torien Cafferata, dance artist Carla Alcantara and sound artist Roman Debrule, the work explores the physical and emotional impacts of climate change.

“Solastagia” is, at its heart, the idea of grieving something you have not quite lost yet. Our project investigates how we are processing our shifting emotional, physical, spiritual relationship to the land in the context of the climate crisis.

Through dance, documentary theatre, sound, and light, the collaborative work explores the interdependence of humans and the earth as a symbiotic relationship. Inspired by diverse images including the Port Moody mud flats, the contents of Voyager’s Golden Record, the songs of humpback whales, and ideas around deep time and cosmic perspective, Solastagia pursues a poetic re-imagining of our relationship to the earth.
