Biography

Rachel Silver Maddock is an independent dance artist, arts writer and choreographer in Vancouver, BC. She holds a BA (with Distinction) in Visual Culture & Performance Studies from Simon Fraser University’s School for Contemporary Arts, and a Diploma of Dance Studies from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London, UK. She has been awarded dance scholarships with the Training Society of Vancouver and EDAM (Experimental Dance and Music) in Vancouver.

Rachel has danced for and collaborated with Vancouver-based companies and artists including plastic orchid factory, Deanna Peters, The Body Orchestra Collective/Jenn Edwards, Marissa Wong, Walter Kubanek, Damarise Ste. Marie, Gemma Crowe and Caroline MacCaul. She has toured performances with Digital Folk (plastic orchid factory), Heart-Beats (Damarise Ste. Marie) and performed at the Des arts dehors put on by Made in BC. She has presented work at Mascall Dance’s Bloom, Chalk It Up, the Dance Centre’s Open Stage 2, Small Stages and the Co.ERASGA Studio Salon Series.

Rachel has been granted choreographic residencies with North Vancouver Recreation and Culture, Mascall Dance and plastic orchid factory. She has completed two publicly funded professional development mentorship projects, with Deanna Peters/Mutable Subject and Olivia Shaffer.

Rachel has independently organized and curated two interdisciplinary performance series since 2022: Gallery Series 258 at Gallery Jones Fine Arts (2022) and the Shipyards Dance Series at Shipbuilders’ Square in North Vancouver (2023).

Rachel Silver Maddock is a freelance writer about the visual and performing arts. She writes regularly for The Dance Current, Dance International and Dance Central and has also written for SAD Mag, the Burrard Arts Foundation, the North Shore News, Gallery Jones and the Daily Hive.

Rachel is currently a Candidate for a Masters of Arts in Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University’s School for Contemporary Arts.
